My Work.
It is essential that the stories I tell address Native American issues and highlight what it is like to be Mixed-Native in relation to other multicultural perspectives. My writing addresses themes such as assimilation, racism, identity, prejudices, “choice of group categorization,” and enmeshment or denial. Drawing from my very personal experience and unique perspective allows me to write about these issues in a way that is both arresting and universal. Despite our very real differences as a society, we are all just people trying to find our way.
My work is also heavily influenced by my experience working as a gold miner and a ranch hand in the high desert of Nevada, my extensive culinary background as a chef living in New Orleans and working in the French Quarter, and my life as a musician playing in a rock band in Las Vegas and now Austin. I enjoy writing across all genres but specialize in crime-driven drama, comedy, and horror. When not toiling in a feature or a pilot, poetry seems to find a way.
